Adding an additional PLP1200

Hello,

I use a pair of PLP1200 powerline adpaters to provide a decent connection to an upper bedroom. If I purchase a singular unit for another room can I connect it from the existing one which is connected to the router and still have the original bedroom attached, or do I require a pair?

Many thanks

Steve

Thanks for the replies all. My additional PLP1200 arrived last night, and after performing a reset on it has synced with my other PLP's. All working as expected.

    Cheers

  • You can add an additional unit for the other room just fine, as long as all the units have the same encryption key they will all talk to one another.  Please note, however, that Netgear only sell power line units in pairs

That's great, thank you for the reply. I have sourced a singular unit (2nd hand) hence why I enquired if I could use it along with my existing pair. I presume I push the encryption button on the master and then again on the 2 slave units?

      Many thanks

Remember, the network will operate at the speed of the slowest plug. If the second hand one is really old, it is not likely to be as fast as the 1200s.

It may not matter. But you have been warned.

  • yes that's right, all 3 should have the same key and therefore be on the same network.
