Bandwidth reliability for streaming TV - Confused about options
Hi There - I'm confused about the Netgear powerline product/bundle options.
Background - I have a Nighthawk 1900 router in a sprawling bungalow.. nothing massive but speed test drop substantially in the garage (where I have a TV) and in the master bedroom. Bandwidth is enough for normal surfing, and netflix works in the bedroom, but picture quality is sometimes pixelated and poor quality. I'm about to cut the cord and move entirely to streaming TV. I have three additional TVs I need to connect, and will buy Rokus for streaming. The only Roku that has an ethernet port is the Ultra - don't want to buy three ultras if I can avoid it due to cost.
What I'd like to do is buy one powerline 2000 which I belive comes with the uplink that connects to the router and an additional outlet to connect to an ultra in my bedroom. Then I'd like to add ONLY a powerline wifi access point for the garage so I can use a roku stick...
Am I correct that
- They don't sell only wifi AP by it self, and I have to buy it bundled with another outlet?
- They don't sell a wifi AP that supporting 2000 Mbps?
My other consideration is to only get a powerline 1000 with wifi and put the wifi somwhere between garage and master bedroom and see if that gives me enough wifi to stream to both... but not sure it will.

Yes, but you can use a LAN-only plug to feed a wireless access point. I have an Orbi router in AP mode at the end of Powerline Ethernet.
But, like most makers of Powerline kit, Netgear sells pairs rather than individual plugs. Some makers are a bit smarter and sell three-packs.

True, but even the fastest wifi tops out at 400 Mbps, from what I read here. And most smart TVs run at wired speeds of 100 Mbps, which is faster than you need for streaming. That works fine for me.

OK - good on the second question... so yes, I suppose I could connect a regular access point at end of powerline but, then I still have to buy a 2nd bundle of two powerline outlets and also buy an access point. I might as well just get the one with the wifi access point. Thanks for the response.

Only you know how big a space you need to fill with wifi, but a Powerline AP plug is bound to be less powerful than something like an Orbi router.
I like simple. But not knowing what you mean by a "Nighthawk 1900" router, it is hard to tell what you can expect from your current setup. I assume that 1900 means AC1900. But that is a wifi speed label, tagged on to about half a dozen different routers.
