Decrease in Netgear internet speed after installing new Verizon router
I have been using the Netgear XAVB2001 power line adapter for many years, and achieving speeds of about 30 Mbps at my connected desktop computer using a Verizon Fios router. In order to upgrade my home Wi Fi speeds, I just converted to the newer high speed Verizon Quantum router. The Wi Fi speed in the house did indeed increase a great deal (nearly 50 Mbps), but the internet speed at my computer, through the same Netgear setup, did not increase and actually decreased somewhat. I installed the latest Netgear firmware upgrade (V0.2.0.5NA) to my adapter but this only increased the speed at the connected computer by a very small amount. Is there anything I can do to obtain the higher speed from my router through the power line adapter, or at least get back to where I was before the router upgrade?

- meltravelAspirantToday at 4:28 PMJames,My desktop computer and the router are located at opposite ends of the house. For your experiment, I used a 50 foot electrical power extension cord and plugged in the computer end Netgear adapter much closer to the second adapter located at the router, as you suggested. This indeed did raise my internet speed to the full speed of the new Verizon router. Unfortunately I cannot practically use the extension cord on a permanent basis, so this does not really solve my problem. Would a newer model Netgear power line adapter set be any better for my situation?Meltravel

You may try to use another powerline adapter but let me set your expectation that you might get the same result due to the distance between the 2 adapters. The data runs through the circuit, the longer the distance the slower the connection.

- SamirDProdigyf their router is set at gigabit full deplex, then manually set the netgear to the same and see what happens.

As I wrote earlier, my Netgear AV 200 Adapter Kit XAVB2001 has only two buttons (Security and Factory Reset). So how do I manually set the Netgear to the same speed as the router?
- SamirDProdigyTheres a configuration program that you can download that should let you change the parameters.
