Incorrect Device Password

I believe you are correct if you use a randomly generated password. If you assign your own, the tool requests the password from the back of the device.

I have done nothing with passwords.
I just use the "press two buttons" routine to get each plug talking to the one connected to the router. I can then deploy the plugs wherever I want them.
Here's how Netgear describes the process:
- Plug in your adapters, including the WiFi access point adapter.
- Wait until the Pick A Plug LEDs are blinking.
- Press the Security button on one of the adapters for two seconds, then press the Security button on one of the other adapters in your existing network for two seconds.
- Both buttons must be pressed within two minutes.
- If you are installing additional adapters, repeat step 3 with one of the secure adapters and one of the adapters that is not yet secured.
In other words, I have not found the need to install the Powerline utility that demands the device's password.
You can also use the standalone Netgear Genie, not the same thing as the Powerline utility, to manage your network.
