Mix & Match XAV series
I have an older XAV101/1004 and a new XAV5001/5004.
I have connected the 5001 as main and all others as remote. The 5001 will only send ethernet to 5004. All units show up on the utility, but no ethernet throughput.
I have reset all units - FW update all units - made sure there was no encription, set to Default Public.
Are the units not compatable with eachother? They all say HomePlug AV compatable.
Help

- x166532xAspirantAnyone? Seems reasonable.
- grilled72AspirantI hope someone from support answers this one. I currently have 4 of the XAV101's and am thinking about purchasing some of the newer 5001's to add to my home network. So far, i've only read about people having trouble with the combination.
- x166532xAspirantI've still got this issue?
- Fiber85AspirantJust contacted Netgear. I have this HDX101 powerline homeplug model. They say these older models no not have firmware in place that matches with the new Powerline generation and its firmware. So I expect it will not be working as expected regarding this statement that all Powerline adapters will work. I am very confused because these older models where quite expensive at the time.
- 1puttAspirantShort answer: YES.
I have a pair of XAV101. I installed an XAVB5004 at one end of the link and it worked with the XAV101 at the other.
I now have the 5004 and 5001 in circuit.
Have not tried this with the two 101's also in circuit but other sites indicate this works, albeit at a reduced speed.
Hope this helps.
PS Throughput varies a lot on the 5xxx series. What are people using to test speed? 1putt wrote: PS Throughput varies a lot on the 5xxx series. What are people using to test speed?
Do not rely on the utility that came with the powerline hardware. It is inaccurate.
To get more objective throughput values try iperf/jperf, LAN Speed Test or some other application.
