Multiple XWN5001 Access Points
My question is whether I've got this set up correctly.
I have purchased three of the powerline 500 Units that each come with an XAV5201 Adapter and an XWN5001 Access Point.
I plugged ONE of the three adapters into wall current and used an ethernet connection to my wifi router.
I plugged ALL THREE of the XWN5001 Access Points into wall outlets (not necessarily "right next" to the adapter unit)
I pressed the security button on the XAV5201 adapter, and within 2 minutes I press the security button on each of the XWN5001 access points.
Each access point eventually came up with the 3 green lights (except on my units the Ethernet LED light is blue).
Netgenie shows that these units are all properly part of the 5ghz network band on my Netgear router.
It this all you have to do? Is there anything else you have to hook/connect/initialize, etc.?
Problem is that my internet connect remains spotty. I can hold one of my devices 2 inches from one or more of these XWN5001 "access points" and get zero wifi reception even though all the lights on the unit are green. Is it simply a problem with the wires in my house?
Wtih all due respect to the folks at Netgear, the instructions for these units are confusing and/or non-existent in some places. As such, it is clear what you have to do to establish direct Ethernet connections remotely by simply plugging in the device, but there is really nothing that clearly explains whether/how you set up multiple wireless units.
ADDENDUM: I previously had this network setup using the 2.0 Band on the Netgear router, and I equally had all the green lights and a visible network on Netgenie. But this network was not strong enough to connect with my TV (so that the wifi connection had to be re-established each time the TV was turned on). Changing to the 5 ghz band solved this problem, and, curiously, the rest of the access points and automatically showed up as connected with the 5 ghz band -- even though all I did was logon through the TV. How did the access points "know?"
Thank you for any assistance, and if what I have done is correct, then this post may help others

Each XWN5001 will have their own Wifi channel, username and password (although you can set them up to be the same on all three units). This is different to your router's wifi
Plug one in only and connect to it, then browse to http://mywifiext.net to access the setup menu.
Disconnect this unit and then do the same for the second unit, then disconnect again and do this for the third unit.
Once you have them all set up you should be ok
Hope this helps

I was unable to connect to the NETGEAR_EXT network that I saw on the list of available wifi connections. It was listed and "open and not secure." In the process, this possible network disappeared from the list and has not returned. http://mywifitext.net comes up that I am "not connected to my wifi extender's network.
As to plugging each 5001 unit in one at a time, this got me back to exactly where I already am: namely, that Netgenie shows I have a good network with the _5ghz network available through my Netgear wifi router that has its own SSID.
It is quite clear from Netgenie that all of the 5001 access points are on this network -- you can see them with their MAC address in the "Network Map" tab. So apparently my problems are simply due to poor wiring or interference in the wiring.
It is clear that when you plug in the 5201 adapter unit by ethernet cable to a port of the router, you do this NOT to connect to some different network but instead to connect to one of the Netgear networks that you have named and created a password for.
I can only conclude that my description of how to set this up is correct and that, as they say, "your results may vary." As note on other websites, the middle plug "pick a plug" feature routinely fluctuates from green to amber to red all day long.

Hi BKTraynor,
You may check the installation guide available in support site.

- CrnolanAspirantHow were you able to connect the XWN5001 to a 5Ghz band? I have a dual band router and every time I log into both the router and the Powerline genie it doesn't seem to give me the option to select either the 2.4 or the 5. Just seems to automatically select the 2.4band. I can't find anything on this.

Re: Powerline 500 XWN5001 - NETGEAR Communities
If you mean that you have wifi clients that do not see 5GHz from the XWN5001 then check that the client can see 5 GHz. Some older equipment is limited to the older 2.4GHz band.
