Netgear PL1000 horrible speeds (old AV200 were fine)

Hi all,

I just got some Netgear PL1000 AV1000 Powerline adapters this morning and not going well so far...

I've been using TP-Link AV200 adapters for 3 years and I get a solid 55Mbps download and 9-10 upload. This is with one plugged in next to the router in the lounge downstairs and the other in the spare room upstairs. There is nothing wrong with them, but I have VM 150MB internet (165Mbps on speedtest.net this morning on my mobile over Wi-fi) so I was just after something a bit better and with Gigabit ports to try and make better use of my connection. House is a small 3 bed that was built in the 1980s. Fuse box wise 'all sockets' is a single fuse if that is of any help.

So... this is result from the TP-Link just before I swapped them out this morning - http://www.speedtest.net/result/5914788776.png

I then plugged in the new Netgear powerlines into the same plugs and I get 1.73Mbps download and I get around the same upload as before. 500MB file LAN file transfer - upload is getting around 9MB/s so there is some extra upload bandwidth in there too but no download bandwidth; download thought about it for a while and never kicked in...

In order to try and eliminate it being noise of other devices in same double socket I also tried in other plugs the otherside of the rooms and switched up/downstairs adapters with each other, same speeds. It is the same story when I move upstairs to a single socket on the landing. But, I've tried moving the 2nd plug to a double socket in the lounge and I get 91Mbps download and 5Mbps upload when they're this close together. So it's not that the new powerline adapters are broken. The 'pick a plug LED' are green wherever I put them which implies Link rate > 80Mbps.

I can't find anything online about this comparison to having existing adapters working fine, also very odd having such a massively low download but upload maintaining. All I can think is that the AV2 standard using the extra wire doesn't like my house as I can't think why one would work fine but not the other, but I don't really have a clue?

Does anyone have any ideas please before I put them back in the box and return them?

Thanks very much.
