Please can anyone tell me if I can add a Wi-fi extender to my exiting
netgear plp1000 powerline adapter

You can use a wifi extender the powerline's wifi network.
Or you could add a second powerline AP - that is a second PLW1000v2 (though unfortunately they are often paired with a wired powerline adapter that you don't need).

if I get a second ap like the PLW 1000 will this connect to my existing plp1000 by the push and Secure button

Yes, you can set it up to use the same PLP1000. It's been a while since I used powerline, so I'm not sure if there's a trick needed on push-and-secure or not. I have connected multiple adapters to the same powerline network though.

That probably should be sold with a wired powerline adapter that you don't need.
You do not need to pair the second PLW1000v2 with its own "base" plug. It can talk to the one you have already.
You just have to follow these instructions to get the added Powerline plug to talk to the existing base plug:

To use a wifi access point with an existing powerline plug, just connect it to the Ethernet port on the plug. I have an Orbi router turned AP working in just that mode.

Got another PLP1000 and put a spare router to it now got Wi-fi outside
