Newbie in Trouble with XAV2001 XAVN2001 network
Sorry to be a bore but I am having a real problem setting up a secure network in my house.
I have the xav2001 connected to my router
I have the XAVN2001 connected to a Max Book
I want secure communications between these and ny home network which consists of a iMac connected with a cable to the same router, A Cannon Pixmar printer connected wirelessly to the network and sundry iPods iPhones and a Mac Book Pro. There are also a couple of PCs that visit from time to time.
Ideally I would like the same WPA code throughout. I had managed to get an unsecured 'spur' to the home network which was enabling family to connect to the router and hence the Web but no access to the family network.
In trying to sort out the security I have lost everything. I have tried to restore the factory settings and I cannot even do that now. All this while my wife is trying to reorganise the dining room! I am sure the little blighters are still working but suspect they are sulking because I have been mucking them about.
Any help gratefully accepted.
Have a lovely Sunday

Thanks then how do I set up wireless security with the Powerbook and Mac book so that the wireless link between them and the xavn 2001 is secure?
I can link the xav 2001 direct to the router and at the other end of the electric circuit the xavn 2001 sits and plays wifi. I want to make the Netgear network on the wireless system secure. How do I do that. The netgear wireless network shows itself as without a padlock and anyone can link in, perhaps giving access to the rest of my kit (this last may be rubbish, but as I said I am a bit of an infant here:confused:
Stadders - jmizoguchiVirtuosoYou will need to use utility and adjust the settings on xavn2001 that has wireless capable first.
Also WPA2 is recommend over WAP-TKIP which can be hacked - StaddersAspirant

That's where the newbie bit comes in. I have tried the utility and I cannot make head nor tail if it and the manual pictures look nothing like the screenshots I get.
Is there an idiot proof walkthrough out there? - jmizoguchiVirtuosoyou should be following the manual which are probably the best tool
support.netgear.com and download the manual - StaddersAspirant

Manual no use to an idiot like me. Will throw away the toys as I am not happy having an unsecured wireless network in my house. The setup utility on a mac has none of the windows shown in the manual for the xav2001 and there is no online manual for the xavn2001 what a disaster and waste of money.
A last plea.
Is there anyone with a MAC out there who can help me set up a wireless network at the xavn2001 end of the network. All I want is for the laptops in the house to either connect through the proper wireless router which is secure or the netgear network which I have created; in some form of secure mode. At present I can find the netgear network in the house but it is unsecured. This is not good for me.
HELP!! PLEASE - rbinnyAspirantHi Did you get anywhere with this??
I have the same issue (i think).
I got the powerline network / wifi extender for my mac OSX / o2 broadband setup. I got the thing up and running very quickly and easily which was great and unexpected - however i noticed that the extension to the network is completely unsecured. I have previously tried to enter the password from the wifi extender in the powerline util but it seemed to crash and freeze up - had to reset and go back to square one - tried again but the same happend.
I don't mind if the extension has the same password / name as existing network or not - but it doesn't seem clear if you are not a system administrator to get this working - can anyone help with simple mac OSX instructions to get it secured?
Thanks

Sorry I got no further. The manual is rubbish and no one else seems to have had the problem. I am sorry you have the same problem but secretly relieved that it is not just me.
Stadders - billthecat3NoviceHi Stadders, I was running into the same issues. When you run your netgear utility, look to the right of your XAVN2001 (you may have to scroll), you will see a little wireless symbol (it is very pale and at the end of the ip address).
Double click that symbol and you will get into the the menu that lets you play with the wireless settings.
I hope this helps - StaddersAspirant
