Does this mean that you have your PC connected to a router over a Powerline network?

What happens if you plug the PC directly into the router?

What is the operating system on the PC?

If it is Windows, have you tried running the network troubleshooter?

It may be that Windows thinks you are on a Public network and has blocked access to the outside world.

In Network & Internet settings you should see Network status. If you go to Change Connection Properties this should be Private.

Yes it is through a powerline network; I've tried plugging it in directly with a 10m ethernet cable and the same happens; I'm running windows 10; the network troubleshooter says everythings ok or that www.microsoft.com is not responding sometimes; I have it set as a public network which i have now changed to private. Seems to have made it better thanks.

Sort of rules out the Powerline plug as the source of the problem.

Exactly. Nothing to do with Powerline, simply your Windows settings.

        Glad it now works.
