PL1010-100PAS vs PL1000-100PAS
On Feb 9, 2017 I bought a PL1000-100PAS for $69.99 and it works great. I was considering buying another so I did a quick search online and found the PL1010-100PAS priced at $39.99. I initiated a chat this morning with Netgear (Vijaya R) and asked if there was any difference in these two products. He told me the PL1010 is a newer, upgraded version. His response below:
Vijaya R
You are right when i checked all the specifications are same but is is upgraded version of pl1000

So Netgear is selling an older version for $30 more? Am I missing something? This is ridiculous! I will be returning the PL1000 and exploring other brands. Buyer beware. Do lots of research before buying.

Did Netgear sell you these plugs? I didn't know it did retail.
My guess is that you have been caught by a retailer's pricing strategy, and perhaps the passage of time. By all means rant at Netgear, but in these circumstances I usually take my business to a different retailer. Oh, and don't think that Amazon is the cheapest around. It rarely is.
By the way, you can get different Netgear powerline devices to work together. Even different speeds will do fine, although the network will run at the speed of the slower plugs.
You can even add devices from a different maker if they use the AV standard. (It is an industry thing.)
