PL1200-100UKS showing as unknown & Random Link speed

Hi,

I have recently bought a twin pack of PL1200-100UKS. I already have some XAV5201 500Mbps adapters too.

My internet is connected at 50Mbps down and 15Mbps up.

The link speed between the computer and the adapter is 1Gbps (I know link rate between the adapters will not be this)

When using the Netgear Genie and Netgear powerline utility programs they are showing the PL1200-100UKS adapters as: Device unknown, model unknown, Firmware version NETGEAR -- --. does this mean I have faulty adapters or they have not yet been added to the programs?

all of the adapters are plugged directly into the walls not into adapters.

When running a speed test I only get 10Mbps down but get the full 15Mbps upload. When checking eaither of the above utilities I note that the link speed is Tx:10Mbps and Rx:211 (so makes sence that I can only get 10Mbps down on the speed tests). on both of the adapters they are showing a green light on the link speed that should be (acording to the manual) at least 80Mbps, so for the light to be green does only one, either Rx or Tx need to be running at that speed? I asumed it would have had to have been both and why would it be such an extreme differance between recieve and transmit, surely if it can go 211Mbps one way it could manage at least half that the other?!

I have unpluged all of the adapters and tested seperate cables encase that was causing a problem, I have factory reset them and tried them in alternative plugs, if I use differant plugs the speed goes down even more so I know I am using the closest ones.I have used just the PL1200 alone with nothing else plugged in and the speed doesnt go up. but when I use the XAV5201 firmware v0.3.0.6CE I get a faster link rate download but slower upload :S. please help or give suggestions. thanks.

There is a lot going on here, so let's deal with the easy bit.

The speed you see on the network will match the slowest device on the  network. The 500s cannot handle 1200, so the 500Mbps will throttle the 1200s.

Then remember that 500 is the speed at which the devices talk to each other over the network. It is not the speed that they use when talking to devices that you have pliugged into the network. The 500s are 100M LAN plugs. The 1200s should be gigabit.

The fact that you have loads of devices will also affect things because they are all talking to one another using that 500 link.

I assume that you have been through the setup regime to get them all talking to one another via the plug that links to the router.

As I understand it, lights are per plug, what it sees on the network.

I removed all of the 500's to rule out any interfearance or slower link speeds, it made no differance to the 1200's link speed. the 1200's are indeed gigabit and I am connected to one of them at 1Gbps. I have been through the setup also.

So what's the problem? Aren't things working?

Like I said, it wasn't easy to understand your first message and to pick out what you were asking.

Beware paying too much attention to numbers that you think you see when you "test" things.
