PLP1200 stopped working after power outage - 3 LEDs lit on router adapter, no ethernet LED on other

Hello,

I've been using a pair of PLP1200 powerline adapters for several months now with no issues. However, recently they stopped working (it might have been after a power outage). All 3 lights will be lit on the adapter connected to the router, with the other adapter having power/powerline LEDs lit but not the ethernet LED.

I have tried the following steps to remedy the problem:
Performed factory reset on all adapters
Switched out all ethernet cables
Tried different plugs all around the house
Connected to different ports on the router
Tried a different router
Bought two new powerline adapters and tried them

All of them resulted in the same issue - all 3 LEDs lit on the router adapter and no ethernet LED lit on the other adapter. This is after many months of perfect service with absolutely no issues.

I also downloaded the Netgear powerline utility and played around with that through a laptop connected to my network with wifi - it can see both powerline adapters (confirmed by checking the MAC addresses) even though ethernet is not working on the adapters.

Can anyone help me identify what might be causing my adapters (and even new adapters) to no longer work after many months of perfect functionality? Thank you!

  • Have you tried just the new pair, one on the router and the other on one of your IT equipment ?  If this doesn't work straight out of the box then it is strange.

It sounds like a security issue to me, where the encryption key is not the same for all adapters.  The adapter connected to your router sounds like the problem one.

Try setting all the adapter's encryption keys to the default 'HomeplugAV' using the Netgear Genie app.  Also try to perform a factory reset through Genie on the router adapter.  If it comes up with an error message like ' Factory Reset failed' then this one is the issue.  In the past I have had to factory reset these types of adapters with other manufacturer's powerline utility software as they appear to get 'stuck' and their own reset routines don't seem to work.

Post back any further issues / findings.
