Powerline 1000 speed slow despite green LED

Hi,
I just got the Powerline 1000 v2 yesterday which says can transmit 1,000mbps max. My WiFi adapter is messed up plus my room is a dead zone, so I get anywhere from 50mbps to 0.5mbps at any given time using that. I do have a 119ft cat5 cable and I get 100mbps directly wired, but I don't own the house and can't drill holes in the attic and can't run the cable throughout the house. I got the powerline adapter so I can have a more consistent speed. I played around with the plugs and my surge protectors and got both adapters to have all 3 green LEDs on. According to the quickstart guide the pick a plug LED has red, amber and green. Both adapters show green which means it has a throughput of 80+mbps but running a speed test shows I only have 25mbps.

So the problem is I'm only getting 1/4th the speed of being directly connected despite have the green pick a plug LED on. (Other outlets had red and amber so I know those colors at least work. at first I only got 4mbps when on red.) Both adapters are the only thing plugged into the outlet, I've tried 3 different cat5 cables, including the ones that come with the adapters. My router is capable of 300mbps and I've tried running a speed test with a lot of devices connected and with everything off.

I'm not expecting a full 100mbps like being directly wired, but I was expecting like 75mbps or around that range. My connection is at least consistent now but not at the speeds I would like. Any ideas?

Thanks

  • I think I figured it out and I'll post in case anyone has a similar issue. I have a gaming motherboard that has the Killer E2200 Gigabit Ethernet Controller with the Killer network adapter driver. It seems sometime between me last using a wired connection to using ther powerline I had modified my ISP speeds in the settings of the Killer network app. I don't know when or why I did this but I set my ISP speed to 150mbps download now and did a speed test and it got to 82mbps. I don't know why this feature is on the app. I would understand limiting speed but this feature literally says "Internet Service Provider Speed:" and let's you enter in your speed manually, and then seems to limit your speed without directly saying it is throttling you.

Well anyways, the problem seems to be resolved and maybe this will help SOMEONE out considering hours of googling stuff came up with nothing.
