Powerline adaptor doesn't allow network connection
Netgear Powerline adaptor XAV5401 no longer allows network connection for TV or DVD player - devices receive invalid IP address (? from Netgear) and gateway can't be seen. Setting fixed IP addresses doesn't resolve as gateway not detected. Router is OK as all other devices (PC & Wireless devices, etc) work on network.
What is the effect of power surge on Powerline Adaptors - could they cause the above effect?

Yep possibly. I would factory reset the unit to see if this resolves the issue first
