XAVB2501 expansion required ?
My current set up is the use of a pair of XAVB2501 ultra adapters and all is working well.
What i would like to do though is connect more devices in the remote room, i dont really want to use a hub and after looking am thinking of either of these:
XAV1004 ,http://www.netgear.co.uk/home/products/powerline-and-coax/work-and-play/XAV1004.aspx
or
XAVB2602, http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop/ShopDetail.asp?ProductID=12466
Clearly opt 1 would give me more ports but more importantly can both of the products just be pluged into a wall port and work with the existing XAVB2501 that is spreading the network over the powerlines?
Any input is welcom thanks,
Paul

- If you already have an XAVB2501 in your remote room why not get an inexpensive switch? You can get a switch with several ports available and they can be either 10/100 Mbps or Gigabit depending on your throughput needs.
- paulc01NoviceYes i could use a switch or hub, in fact i have one, but i don't have a great deal of space. This room is rather small and the equipment sits on a desk, below the desk the room only has one power socket, into this goes the xavb2501 and into this i have a 6plug power extension strip that sits on the desk. Basically just looking for a simple solution that will not take up much room, i realise this may not be opt 1 as it doesn't have a pass through.
Wasn't to sure how compatible the netgear powerline kit is, was told by a salesman at broadband buyer that netgear power line kit was pants and maybe i should look at Devolo.
I don't mind buying a new pair of power line adapters but i see it being handy if the old ones are compatible for use elsewhere in the house.
thanks paulc01 wrote: Yes i could use a switch or hub, in fact i have one, but i don't have a great deal of space. Not a hub. Use a switch. Switch's do not have to be large and can be placed on or off the desk. The switch will give you several ports to connect your ethernet-based hardware and properly handle data to multiple clients simultaneously.
As long as all you powerline products use the same certification then you can mix or match. Read the reviews of the powerline HomePlug plugs on SmallNetBuilder.com. For the most part you can even use a different company's software to run someone else's plugs according to a review on SNB.
I have no idea what you mean by "pants" in the following:"a salesman at broadband buyer that netgear power line kit was pants"
From the reviews I've read, including SNB webmaster thiggins and SNB forum member rhombus reviews of the Powerline 500 Mbps plugs, I would go with Netgears. If you read reviews, throughputs measured as averages over time (the way rhombus tested) seem more real world results than spot checks at single points in time (the way thiggins measures). Regardless, thiggins has terrific general information and has a troubleshooting article as well.- paulc01NoviceOk many thanks for that advice, i have purchased a Devolo AVtriple+ dLAN 500 3-Port HomePlug Starter Kit, this i hope will be equal to netgear but solve the multi port option i'm after.
Sorry for the use of 'Pants' a general use for when something is bad:
His car was bad
His car was 'pants' - Let us know your experiences with the Devolo.
Thanks for the definition on "pants". I've always thought of pants as a good thing, as in "don't get caught with your pants down." :D
Umm, I just remembered "getting pantsed", meaning someone pulling your pants down to embarrass you. Is that what you mean? - paulc01NoviceNope, it seems the use of 'Pants' is a very just a British way of expressing how rubbish something is.
The Devolo 500s have turned up and all appears good, much like the Netgears i just plugged them in and they worked. paulc01 wrote: The Devolo 500s have turned up and all appears good, much like the Netgears i just plugged them in and they worked.
Good. Let us know in a month or so how the Devolo 500 plugs are working out. :)
