XE104 suddenly halfs throughput

have been using several sets of XE104s at various locations, home, offc, brother, friends - usually and for a long time with good results, and little problems.

all providers are 16-20 Mbps max, so there is enough overhead to actually achieve throughputs of 12-14 Mbps, most of the time. have occasionally checked against fixed wired LAN connection, directly into the router, and the difference used to be hardly 5%.

but now, all of a sudden, a pair (tried several units to check for a hardware pure fault) only delivers about half the performance, some 6-8 Mbps.

i have changed nothing, using the same computers, the same wall sockets, everything. i was away for a few weeks, and the provider changed the original old PIRELLI A124G modem/router to a newer HUAWEI HG530, but can this make a difference? i have used so many other routers before, in other locations, there was never a real difference from one to another.

or can (after some 4 years) something in the house have changed? something disturbing the signal, something else working in parallel? there are 10+ apartments nearby.

any suggestion where i should start looking?

many greetings - heinz -

  • Power line device is sensitive noise in the power line so possible something is happening. Also I can change Mbps rate constantly up/ down so if you are saying you have good throughput for years and likely to be either line noise issues or device start to worn out
  • >> you have good throughput for years

yes, at that particular location, for almost 5 years

    >> and likely to be either line noise issues

read all postings about this, but can this be measured or found
    out some way?

    >> or device start to worn out

no, cannot be, as i exchanged different ones (spares, same model).

    still lost - heinz -
  • if you replaced around and issues is still same then possible line noise issues.
  • june, tks.

    you answered:

    ???

  • You have to remove any other appliance on the circuit you are using to see

once more, nothing was changed or added. actually, on the line, there is nothing but a few lights. so it must be something in the house where i cannot see.

  • so, checked some more, removing step by step everything that uses electricity in that apartment and on that phase, plus to be on the safe side, the two others.

nothing changed, bad throughput if using sockets more than 5m away.

so it MUST be something else in the house. is there any way to check or measure it? i have no acccess to any of the other apartments.

a big machine of sorts? another POWERLINE operation on the same phase, also NETGEAR or anything else?

    any idea?
