Aug 23, 2015Installed the A6210_1.0.0.30-Standalone.exe package, which was suspiciously similar in size to the package with Genie bundled, and was disappointed to later discover A6210.EXE (A6210 Genie) resident in task manager. Seemingly able to remove A6210.EXE from startup in msconfig with no ill effect, but the install ought to be driver-only, like the release notes say:
If you want to install the adapter drivers including the NETGEAR utility (Genie), run A6210_v1.0.0. 30.exe. and follow the on-screen install instructions.
If you want to install just the adapter drivers without the NETGEAR utility, run A6210_v1.0.0.30-Standalone.exe. and follow the on-screen install instructions.
The way the utility's installed, started and merely left 'hidden' is quite sloppy/lazy on Netgear's part, and undermines those who might be trying to practise Krebs’s 3 Basic Rules for Online Safety.
