WiFi USB adapter has terrible ping (Cannot Game)

I am having terrible ping issues with the A6210 usb wireless adapter. I have it connected to a USB 3.0 port, so it should be all set up for the best quality. This adapter is connected to my personally built gaming tower.

Using a laptop, I tested the ping of my router (Netgear Quad-Stream X4S "R7800") using "ping 192.168.1.1 -t" and all packets were returned within the range of "less than 1 ms with a max of 3ms." I then used the laptop to ping my tower PC which has the netgear usb wireless adapter and get spikes of up to 2000ms.

I further tested my situation by putting my router 2 feet from the USB wireless adapter to ensure there was no signal disruption. Same problem. I uninstalled and reinstalled the software multiple times. I tried to use the standalone software setup with no "genie" as well. No change.

Is my wirelss USB adapter bad? I have had it for a little over a month. This just started happening about 2 weeks after having it. That, or I am just noticing this because I am  playing online games now. I cannot return it to the store I purchased it from as they have a 14 day return policy.

  • I also just wanted to note here that I am a programmer and computer hardware guy, I'm nowhere close to being good with networking. I simply know how to ping devices on my network.
