WNA3100M stuck at 144.5Mbits/s
Hi,
I recently bought the WNA3100M wifi adapter and it's stuck at 144.5Mbits/s instead of 300 on Windows 8.1 Pro.
I tried with the wifi of my Macbook Pro and I'm synchronized at 300Mbits/s so it's definitly not coming from my router. How do I configure the WNA3100M in order to get the full speed?
Thank you for your help
Do you have a dual-band (2.4 and 5 GHz) router? If so, your Macbook could be connecting to the 5 GHz network, where it's relatively easy to sync at 300 Mbps.
OTOH, the WNA3100M operates only at 2.4 GHz. While it can theoretically sync at 300 Mbps, it's relatively difficult to do so when there are neighboring Wi-Fi networks present. The reason is that the Wi-Fi standards require that routers and devices conserve bandwidth by using 20 MHz channels instead of 40 MHz channels. Adapters like the WNA3100M can only achieve 300 Mbps with 40 Mhz channels. While some routers may offer settings to force the use of 40 MHz channels, please don't enable it. It's non-standard and very unneighborly because it consumes 2/3 of the available spectrum in the 2.4 GHz band.

Hi,
You were right! I checked on my router interface and it's 2.4 and 5Ghz, I separate it in 2 network and when I connect on the 2.4Ghz with my Macbook I'm also stuck at ~144Mbps.
I didn't know the Wi-Fi standard, so I guess when they say 300Mbps it's more like a commercial thing.
Thanks for your time and your help.
