Apple Mac: Extender connects to network but no Internet

Hi, hope someone can help me :)

I've browsed previous topics here and have seen a similar problem to this that suggested that it was due to the MAC address being filtered, however I've ruled that out.

So, I have the EX2700 which I got just today. I'm in the UK and am with Virgin Media and have a Super Hub 2ac router which I connect to that via a 2nd Cisco router that is used by Screenwise/Google as a Router Meter.

Initially, I did the simple set using WPS on the Cisco Router, and when that didn't connect to internet, I Factory reset the 2700 and set it up again manually via www.mywifiext.net with the same results.

Basically, I can connect to the Extender fine with all my devices - I see the _EXT network no problem, all the correct lights come on the 2700, however there is no internet and it's unable to resolve host.

As mentioned, I did see someone else's post here that had the same issue and it was suggested they log on to their router and disable the MAC filter/ACL. This is something I can't seem to do as the Virgin Super Hub works in reverse as far as I can see: you can't disable ACL because it's not an on and off feature, you only have a filter list to add devices to block. There is nothing in my list anyhow, I don't block any MAC addresses and never have.

I cannot find a way to connect to the Cisco Router to see it's settings. I'm possibly not techy enough to figure that out or maybe it's not possible due to that router being a glorified dongle.

When in the www.mywifiext.net page, when I open 'connected devices' it only says Wifi Extender at the top, which I assume is it's own details, Wifi Devices area is empty, despite the fact that the Device light has lit up and I am obviously connected to wifiext.net via a wifi connected device.

I have tried this with my imac, my iphone, my ipad and my bluray (so it's definitely not limited to Apple devices either).

I know I'm not the most tech savvy person out there but I'm not a complete dunce either but at this point I'm at a complete loss on what to do next - except of course, return the item back to the seller.

Help!

  • Hi Pebblez,

Look for firmware upgrade if any for extender and modify wireless channel on your router.

Hi jvasanth1984 thanks for the reply :)

Have updated the Firmware on the 2700 now - quite the hoops I had to jump through for that as I couldn't update direct via the wifiext page (because no internet) but anyhow, got there in the end. Not made a difference though unfortunately.

Don't quite understand what you mean by modify my wireless channel on router though. Could you explain that a bit further for me?

Ok, I googled the wireless channel thing, however my Virgin hub won't let me change any settings as presumably it's wireless settings are 'locked' because it's connected via ethernet to the Cisco router (which is the Screenwise usage meter) which is what's technically providing the wireless signal.

And as I haven't found a way to get into the Cisco router settings (nothing happens when I type in it's ip address into a browser), I can't switch channels.
