I think I just found the answer... in the EX6200 manual it says:
CAUTION: Do not use an Ethernet cable to connect the extender to a WiFi router. If you do so, the extender does not work because it is designed to use only a WiFi connection to a WiFi router.
So, it looks like the answer is "No".
Can anyone suggest a Netgear product that will work the way I need it to?

According to the manual, you can use the D6300 as a Access Point - Page 99.
