An extender uses wifi only. What you are describing is an Access Point, which some extender's do support. Check out the documentation for your extender, to see if supports AP mode.

Thanks! After several phone calls to Customer Service and escalation to Level 2 support, we found (uncovered) that the EX2700 is not configurable as an Access Point. Only the EX 6100 (and above) and the WN3000RPv3 (not v1 or v2) are configurable as such!
