Cannot connect to 5Ghz on EX7000 extender

Hello guys, I have a very strange problem. I bought the range extender EX7000 because I had good experiences with my previous 2500RP.

I unpacked it new from the box, opened the genie in the browser. Then it asked me to update to the latest firmware version, so I did.

I installed the networks and connected to my dualband router. Afterwards the 2,4Ghz works perfectly. But I bought it for the 5Ghz which is faster. So when I connected my Samsung Galaxy S5 it is constantly obtaining ip address, connecting and then it switches over to the 2,4Ghz because it simply cannot connect to 5Ghz. So I tried my google chromecast, which supports 5Ghz. It keeps connecting but it will never connect. My laptop with an Intel 5100 AGN wireless dualband network adapter sees the 5Ghz but when I attempt to connect my computer freezes up and the only thing I can do is restart my laptop by switching the power off. The mother source 5Ghz of my router (sitecom X6 N9) works like a charm and when I switch my 2500RP extender on all works fine again.

The EX7000 is not more than 4 meters away from the router.

I resetted the router with the pin. Did the setup again, same story occurs.

Anyone got tips? Because otherwise I have to return it back to the store. Im very disappointed on this issue.

  • Hi,

I had a similar problem with my EX7000 when I got it a couple days ago, however I got mine working.

First I would get as many devices as I could to see if you can connect anything to the 5Ghz. Also I would try resetting the router back to factory default settings and then trying to connect to the 5Ghz through the extender without changing any of the settings on the router.

Also try putting the extender in 'fast lane' mode and check to see if you can connect to the 5Ghz from the extender, while it is connected to the router via 2.4Ghz.

The fact that I could connect to the extender's 5Ghz while it was in 'fast lane' lead me to belive the source of my problem was the router. Maybe some router settings just aren't that compatible with this extender. I'm 99% sure it was my WMM settings that was messing with the 5Ghz.

Thank you very much! I tried the fast lane. Which in fact is quite a hidden feature when you configure the extender.

Now everything is working smoothly in the fastlane mode. I use it to connect at 2,4Ghz and repeat it as a 5Ghz signal. Perfect speeds and no interference on the 2,4Ghz band anymore. You saved my weekend!

      Good job!
