Cannot Connect to Xfinity Router

I used to use this with a Netgear router. I switched to the X-1 platform and got a new Xfinity (Cisco) router, DPC3939. Today I tried using the extender for my grandson to connect via Ethernet to his Xbox. I cannot get this to connect. I tried a troubleshooting FAQ of connecting it to my router via Ethernet and it won't connect there either. Following the FAQ, it says,

  • Connect your NETGEAR Wireless Range Extender to your router via an Ethernet cable and type in the extender's default IP address into your browser: 192.168.1.250.

Well, the router uses the 10.0.0. network so I am having a hard time understanding how it is supposed to route to another private network. Am I missing something or is this device only useable on 192.168.1.0 networks?

I am using Windows 10 & Chrome.

Thanks

  • Thanks for the advice. Believe it or not, I got it to work. I fired up my laptop, plugged it in, and the browser opened to the setup page. Only screw up was when I applied the settings, after about 10 seconds I got a page saying the website could not be reached. The lights showed connectivity, so took it down to the Den, connected it to the Xbox & everything is working now. Only issue left to troubleshoot is why I cannot reach http://mywifiext.net. I can't think of anything I'd want to change, but it's just strange I cannot reach the extender. I also tried going to to it's new ip address, but that did not work either. It's working and that is all that matters right now, I;ll check the access issue out some other time.

Thanks again for the advice. If it stops working again I will try that.

  • If you connect the extender to a router via Ethernet, then you should follow the instructions to set it up as an Access Point.  See page 16 in the manual (link).
