Computers stopped connecting to my Nighthawl X65AC3000

Since purchasing I have had no issues connecting to my extender but in the last few days my computers have stopped connecting. I have rebooted the Nighthawk and the lights show connection to my incoming router but when I connect to the internet using it, it works for a few seconds and then disconnects saying there is no internet connection.Going back to look at the  Nighthawk the 4 white lights show it is connected to my main router so why can my computer no longer pick up the signal?

I am tempted to do a reset to factory settings but keep feeling it is something simple I am just missing!

What router is it connecting to?

When you're going through setup on it, and it finishes, does the router show it connected?

If so, try navigating to the extenders IP address and checking its status page for backhaul to see its connection strength. Take a screen snip and post it here

  • I have done factory reset and again used the APP to connect. The bar code is not recognised so I just followed instructions. All looked well and connected then when I placed it back up stairs, thought still showing full connection, my upstairs PC (and any other item) would not pick up the extender. I reset again and then manually connected, this time setting it as a separate name so I could identify it against my router. Again, the router showed faintly, the extender with a full signal but nothing would connect to it. Everything I have checked online, and on the Netgear website just tells me to two routes to reconnect and they seem to work but I cannot connect. I think it might be time to give up and buy a new extender.

  • Well my enthusiasm was short lived. When I tried to manually connect all went well until it asked me to put "mywifiext.local" into the browser and it said it was an incorrect location. I tried the other suggestions with the same result and even put in the IP of the extender to no avail. I noticed, however that the signals on the front of the extender showed full connection so put it in place on the upper floor and it showed a 5 bar connection on the extender but when I tried to search the interneton the PC upstair it would not connect and told me I had to finish the connection procedure so I ended up back where I started.

I can just reach my main router from the upper floor so I know my computer is fine and my internet connection to the building is fine. The extender shows as fully connected (as I went back to using WPS to try and connect) but whenever I actually try to connect it says I have not completed the installation even though the procedure won't let me go to the final phase.

Before I give up and bin it, are there any other suggestions please?

  • The model is EX8000. Following your advice I did a factory reset and thought I would be clever and install it manually. All went well but despite having the correct IP it would not do the final stages, I decided just to go again for a WPS install and that seemed to go well. I have reinstated the extender where it was and at the moment it shows 5 bar strength in that area though yesterday it decided to drop and show the red warning. I am hoping that the factory reset and clean installation may have cleared the gremlins regardless so fingers crossed.

I thank you both for taking the time to steer me. I'm not the brightest with these things so your answers gave me the confidence to go for an factory reset!!

What router is it connected to?

Did you install it with WPS or using the installation assistant? I'd reset it and install it using the assistant
