Connecting EX6200 to Xfinity internet wireless gateway

I was able to connect my 6200 when we had a router. Now we have a wireless gateway modem and no router, and the gateway has a WPS button. However I am not able to connect the 6200 Extender with the wireless gateway modem following the instructions about using WPS buttons on both devices. Does anyone know how to do this?

    Have you tried manually connecting, by scanning for your gateway from the extender and providing the passkey when requested?
