D7000 - Build Mesh with EX8000

Hi,

Extremely happy with my D7000 Netgear, only concern is to extend range to cover the garage BUT WITH the same SSID  in other words can the D7000 Netgear manage a mesh network ? ...

Could the Extender EX8000 be the solution ?  ( even if I need 2 more units to reach 300 feet )

Thanks in advance for your kind assistance

I don't know what this "current extender" is so cannot advise on whether you can give it the same SSID as the D7000.

All I know is that this works on my R7800 in AP mode. Not that it is something  would do because I see no point.

My objective is to extend my range substantially With a Unique SSID ... and my understanding is that the only solution is a Mesh solution ...

Like I said, you can use the same SSID on different devices on the network but it won't be Mesh. To get that you need a router that supports Mesh and compatible satellites.

Netgear has a raft of Mesh devices. That is what Orbi is all about. Then there are the "MK" devices.

Mesh WiFi Network: Routers & Systems | NETGEAR

Your D7000 is a DSL modem/router. If you need that for your Internet connection, you can put it into modem only (bridge) mode and add a Mesh router network.

No. Mesh requires router and extender (satellite) to communicate in ways that are beyond your D7000 modem/router.

There is nothing to stop you from using the same SSID and password but there might not be much point.

WiFi clients will still have to negotiate a handover from one source to another. And that might not be any quicker than if they two sources were on different sources.

The EX8000 should work with your D7000.

Thanks a lot for your answer.

May I take advantage of your knowledge ...

      1. You are saying the EX8000 could work with my Netgear D7000 as a range extender

      and

      2. Nothing prevents me from using the same SSID

Is that right or not ?
