EAX20 VOIP?

I just recently received a VOIP phone. I connected the ethernet cable to one of the ports on the back of my EAX20 but the phone is not powering up. When I tested the phone at the location where I got it, all I had to do was plug the ethernet cable into the port and the phone started work. But now at home its not working.

I am assuming I either need to do some sort of setup to the extender or I have to connect directly to an output on my router. The EAX20 extender is upstairs and connected wirelessly to my router which is downstairs. I need the phone upstairs in my home office so connecting directly to the router is not an option.

What are my options here? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not powering up? Reads like they showed you the usage of this unknown VoIP phone in an environment with PoE (Power over Ethernet). On normal Ethernet ports, like on the EAX20 (or virtually all Internet routers or gateways), there is no PoE.

Nothing does prohibit to power-up the VoIP device in case there is an Internet connectivity issue. It would simply fail to place to receive calls. Does this magic VoIP phone come with an external power adapter, too?

What is the router brand name and model number that is connected upstream of your EAX20?

On that upstream router, have you connected your phone there to see if it works?

On that upstream router, you are looking for a setting associated with SIP ALG.  Do a web search on SIP ALG and you will find much reference discussion.  On Netgear routers it is usually in the Advanced -> Setup -> WAN Setup section.

The vendor that sold you the phone should be able to provide you some technical assistance with their product.

Thank you for the info. I am first going to see if getting the power supply to the phone resolves the issue. If nothing else, it will at least get me power. If after that I still do not have the connectivity, I will venture down the avenue you have supplied.

      Thanks again.

Curious, which make and product model?

I understand the VoIP vendors don't include power supplies in the face of PoE available. This avoids electronic waste, and saves shipping costs.

It does have a power supply port, but one was not given to me. So, I am assuming you are correct and, in the office where I was shown the phone, they probably had PoE, I hadn't thought about that.

I've called the vendor to get the power supply and hopefully this will resolve the issue.

And it's not a magic VoIP phone. If it were, I think it would work regardless.

      Thanks for the assist.
