EX3700 extender 169 pre IP address error

Why am I getting a 169 pre IP Address (no web page loads) for auto connect on IPhone 8+ but IPhone 6S, Samsung 9+, laptop and other devices all connect to extender with no issues?

Apple support has no clue and blames the Netgear extender. Netgear blames Apple phone and states extender is working fine.

Previous Netgear community support solution suggestion has me resetting everything. I have already reset all the routers, extender and phone network settings numerous times. Have the latest software revisions.

It usually means something else on your network (other than your router) is acting as a DHCP host or that a IP address isn't being given to the device and its self assigning its own address.

does this 1 device connect to other wireless networks or does it work fine if its directly connecting to the router?

Usually when its only 1 device, we look at the device itself. Its its multiple device, then we look at router/extender.

Thank you for the response. The phone connects to the main cable router at home and works fine. I can connect to other WiFi spots such as WalMart, Lowes and Publics without issue, but when connected to places like Starbucks or other stores I cannot get the web pages to load. The Samsung phone works at all these locations.

This morning I went through the routine of resetting the extender, toggleing the Bluetooth, WiFi and airplane mode on the phone. I did get an IP address without the 169 prefix. Shows I am connected to extender, but Safari shows not Internet connection.

      Thanks again for your help.

I think its an issue with the phone. Especially when you have the problem at other locations like starbucks and other wifi spots.

Plus all your other devices work.

        so to summary:

all other devices work without issue

only 1 device has the issue.

that specific device has issues on other wifi networks.

Really seems to point at it being that device.
