Jun 30, 2017EX6100 is a Nightmare with Faulty Firmware
I have had the EX6100 Extender for over a year. It has NEVER worked like it should. It's the most tempermental extender I've ever had. I wish I had returned it, but it's at a vacation house, and I missed the return window. I also thought a firmware update would eventually fix it.
Running the setup process is a crapshoot. Sometimes (rarely) it runs quick and smooth. Mostly though it just hangs on certain pages and doesn't do what it is supposed to do, even after hard resets.
If you DO manage to actually get it to connect to your router and provide a signal, it works fairly well. BUT....and it's a BIG but.... If the power ever gets disconnnected to the extender.....even for a microsecond....upon reboot the extender will show that it's connected to your router and everything is fine, but it won't let you connect to the internet. The only fix is to go through a hard reset and then keep your fingers crossed that you will actually get through the setup.
It doesn't matter if you assign a fixed IP, whether that be through the extender or the router or both.
I'm a very experienced tech and networking guy. This is a miserable product. I should have learned the first time when I bought a WN3000RP. It was much the same for the first few firmwares, but at least it was eventually fixed (after about a year) and still works OK.
I would not be so harsh with this post except there have been MANY posts for well over a year about this problem and it has not yet been addressed through a firmware update.
I will never buy another Netgear product again.

Did you contact NETGEAR at any point? There was a 1 year hardware warranty, but it sounds like you may have past that.. But if you have case numbers from before hand they might be able to help you.

No, I didn't contact Netgear because it is not a hardware issue. This is a well documented firmware problem (check how many closed threads there are). I missed the seller's (Best Buy) return window for refund. Warranty would only get me a refurb replacement....with the same faulty firmware.

Anyone from Netgear care to weigh in as to why this was never addressed through a firmware update?
I've now bought two AmpedWireless extenders to replace both of the Netgear extenders I have. Installation went smoothly on both, connection is better, and signal is far stronger.
