ex6120-Does not connect to laptop the ethernet port and will not download firmware update

I have an EX6120 range extender that when connected by ethernet cable to my laptop, doesnt work properly.  It worked fine after setup and then shut laptop down, doesnt work properly at all.  Takes forever and a day to load a page, if at all.  It went from almost 100mbs to not being able to be read by ookla speed test.  Using windows 10.  Go to my netgear and it says it needs a firmware upgrade and so I try and upgrade it but it say the extender isnt connected to the internet, but yet it is, because its how im asking questions to you now, lol.  Tried download firmware upgrade manually but it says I need a program to read a chk. file.  And then on top of that cant you chrome web browser anymore to get to my account here.  Have to use edge now. Any help appreciated!

I use Chrome all the time here, and am using it now.  So the forum is certainly compatible with Chrome (as is my.netgear.com).  What problems are you seeing?

    You don't.

You download it, and don't try to open it.  Then you won't get that error.  Then you install it from the browser (which is just uploading it to the extender).

Does it work properly when you connect to the extender's wifi network? Perhaps try this with more than one device (laptop and maybe a mobile device)

I can use chrome fine for netgear.com.  It has an issue when using chrome for mywifiext.net.  The screen just blinks.  Never done that before.  Go to edge and it opens up just fine.  When i download the file through chrome manually, I see it download to a zip file, I open it and thers nothing but a chk. file and instructions.  Nothing else.  No executable, nothing.  Ive updated these things before and it downloads and updates automatically but not this extender.  While using my phone, laptop, or wifes tablet, it works fine except it its about half the speed it was running at. about 45mbs to about 20-22mbs.  Going back to the firmware upgrade, no matter what I do, on mywifiext.net, it says that im not connected to the internet, which I am lol.  Its never done that on updrades before.  I've reset this extender so many times that my fingers hurt.  I would also like to be able to use my ethernet again because for some reason it runs at about 100mbs when it worked now nothing.

Ok.  That suggests there an browser compatibility issue in the extender's web pages.  Possibly updating the firmware will fix that.

And that is all you need.  The chk file is the new firmware.  You don't open the chk on the PC, instead you upload it using the browse control on the firmware update page in mywifiext.net   After the chk file is uploaded, the extender checks it to make sure it is valid and installs it (requiring a reboot).  See page 40-41 of your manual ( http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/EX6120/EX6120_UM_25Aug2015.pdf )

The "check online" function on that page should also have worked though.
