EX8000 Configuration Settings

I have a Netgear x8 R8500 router and I’m interested in the configuration settings for the router and EX8000 extender. It’s not clear what the best settings are (Smart Connect, etc).

Thanks

    Hi ejvanyo,

You can get the EX8000 extender and configure it in the extender mode. In this mode, it will clone the SSID on your router to the extended network so that you don't have to switch to different names. If you have enabled Smart Connect on Router and have only 1 SSID on router, that SSID will be used for extender. If you have multiple ssid on the router, it's recommended to select xxxx5G_2 as the network to extend. Depending on whether the ssids are same or different smart roaming and smart connect will be disabled/enabled on extender automatically. WPS can also be a convenient way to configure the EX8000. Please follow the instructions on QSG/GUI for setup and kindly reach out to support in case of any questions.

      Thanks. A couple questions:

What should the settings on the router be for
      Implicit Beamforming
      Airtime Fairness
      MU-MIMO

Also do the 2.4G network and 5G network (5G networks are using Smart Connect) on the router need different SSIDs or should they be set the same.

      Thanks

Please keep these settings at the default.

You can keep it that way if you want and extended network can also have different ssid's (one for 2.4G and one for 5G) . Smart connect will be disabled on extender in this case. Devices connected on the router's 2.4G SSID will move to extender's 2.4G SSID and devices on your router's 5G SSID will move to extender's 5G SSID when you move into the extender's coverage area. If you want smart connect on ex8000, the 2.4G and 5G ssid on extender should be same.

        Thanks
