Internet Download Speeds with WNR2000
We recently upgraded our Internet package and are supposed to receive download speeds of 20 mbps. When plugged directly into the modem I get 19.7. I get that a wireless connection is going to be slower, but when going through the Netgear Router on wireless I've never been over 5. Avg. is 2.8-3.2. Are there settings that could help improve my download speeds? Or is the equipment itself hindering things?
Here's what I've got now:
Modem - Arris TG862 (from TWC)
Router - Netgear Wireless N WNR2000
Computer - Toshiba Satellite E105 series
Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN
Network Connection speed - 11 mbps
Latest speed test: 3.1/2
Router settings:
Channel - 11 (least crowded in area on test)
Mode - up to 54mbps
Enable Wireless Router Radio - yes
Enable SSID Broadcast - yes
Enable WMM - no
Frag length - 2304
I generally work in the room next to the router's location. There is a wall, but actual distance is probably 15 ft.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

- Retired_Memberenable WMM
- hultenlkAspirantEnabled WMM and no improvement.
I also plugged directly into the router and got 19.7/2 speeds, so the router itself is working fine. Just seems like way too much degradation to be purely environmental/interference, though. Sitting right in front of the router on wireless, my speeds are still 3.2/2.
Any other thoughts? - jmizoguchiVirtuoso54MMbps on wifi is using 20Mhz which is half duplex, single stream so you will see half the speed.

You intel 5100 is 450Mbps capable which WNR200 don't but you need to change the wireless mode in the router above 150Mbps to get 40Mhz which will use dual stream which should show better performance . - hultenlkAspirantThanks for the tip. I updated to the "above 300," and got 4.8 download/1.9 upload.
I also checked to make sure WMM was enabled, but every time I try to tick the box and hit apply, it disconnects from the network and won't stick.
Thanks again for any help you might have. - jmizoguchiVirtuosoNext to e you post you need to post at correct section

Have you also updated the intel driver? Go to intel site and check it - jmizoguchiVirtuosoAlso WMM setting should be checked in intel wifi utility as well
- Retired_MemberI've used this site quite often with good results to find updated intel drivers. http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect Are we talking about 2.4 or 5.2 Try using 5g in same room something doesn't seem right. Click on connection status what does it say for speed? 19mbps should be able to pass on one channel connected at 54 shouldn't it?
- jmizoguchiVirtuosoWNR2000 does not support 5GHz
- Retired_MemberThanks Time for thicker glasses I guess. I even read the specs several times and missed it.
- hultenlkAspirantI updated the Intel driver and made sure the wi-fi utility is WMM enabled as well (good call!). Yet I still keep getting disconnected when I try to enable WMM from the Netgear settings page.
My other wi-fi settings:
Channel Width for Band 2.4 - Auto
Channel Width for Band 5.2 - Auto
nmode - Enabled
Ad hoc Channel - 11 (least crowded in area)
Ad hoc default wireless mode 0.802.11 b/g
Power management - Noisy Environment (I live in an apt. in NYC)
Qos - WMM Enabled
Fat Channel Intolerant - Disabled
Mixed Mode Protection - RTS/CTS Enabled
Roaming Aggressiveness - Highest
Throughput - Enabled
Transmit Power - Highest
Wireless Mode - .802.11 a/b/g
Connection speed is generally 11 mbps.
Anything I'm missing? Is the router itself too limited to get up to 20 mbps wirelessly?
