Is it best to connect a WG602 to the PC or directly to the router?
I have just bought a WG602 v4 wireless access point. I already have a WIRED DG834 v4 router bought in 2010.
I am wondering how is best to proceed with setting up the new WG602. On the box of my DG834 it shows (in a diagram), the WG602 being connected directly into the DG834 as opposed to connecting the WG602 directly to the PC.
So, in a nutshell, I'm asking which option is the best - are there any pros/cons to consider? I think I'd rather it go through the DG834 but just need to know if there is anything to consider.
Further question/help
At the moment, it works fine straight away out of the box by plugging it into the DG834 - no messing around with settings, installing, etc, etc. HOWEVER, how do I secure it? - ie, although, the fastest way of getting it to work is to just plug it directly into the DG834, I cannot work out how to secure my wireless signal. The manual seems more interested in connecting it directly to my PC, hence my original question.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer any guidance.

- fordemMentorThink about what it is you want to do, ie why you bought the WG602 and what it is you are asking.
Most of us buy an access point to either add wireless capablities to an existing wired network, or to extend an existing wireless network, it can also be used to create a wireless bridge.
Which one of these goals would you achieve by connecting it to the PC?
To secure the wireless signal you log into the access point's management webpage and set up the encryption. - ploppoAspirantHi,
Basically, I bought it as I wanted to add a wireless access point to my existing wired internet connection.
So, in a nutshell, I am just adding a wireless access - I just don't know whether it is best to plug it directly into a PC which is connected to my Wired DG834 or plug it directly into the DG834.To secure the wireless signal you log into the access point's management webpage and set up the encryption
I can't seem to do that whilst it is connected to my DG834 - is this something I need to do by attaching it to my PC first?
I have to be honest that I know nothing about routers, etc. My DG834 was easy for me to install as my ISP had an .exe file that I ran to just set it up and get it running with no messing about at all.
Thanks for the help so far. - jmizoguchiVirtuosoAccess point should have default IP which you should refer to manual
Go to support.netgear.com and download the manual.
You will require to setup accordingly and usually you will née to use Ethernet cable directly to the Access point for setup. Once that is done connect to existing network via Ethernet cable - fordemMentorWhat is it you want to do?

You bought it to add a wireless access point to the wired internet connection - what will connecting it to the PC achieve?
Plug the access point into the router.
Find the section of the access point manual that deals with setup - it will either tell you how to run the setup program (if there is one) - or - it will tell you what the default ip address of the access point is, and will walk you through the setup step, by step.
