iTunes and spotify remote

I'm using the WN1000RP to extend a 2.4GHz network. I have two mac mini's, both running iTunes with home sharing on and Spot Remote for Spotify.

I can see other devices in my network (my synology box for example, which runs a web server, and can also log into the admin page for it), but for some reason Remote.app and Spot Remote.app on my iPhone/iPads refuse to see the mac minis when connected to my _ext network.

Even more bizarrely, when connected to the _ext network, iTunes will see my iPhone/iPad if I elect to add a library without home sharing, and will allow me to enter the four digit pin in iTunes. But the iPhone/iPad will then say it can't find the library.

With Spot Remote on iPhone/iPad when I try to see what available servers there are (there should be two), it just continues to search, with nothing showing.

When I am on my non extended wifi, I can see both itunes libraries and both Spot Remote servers.

It's driving me insane as it's one of the main reasons I bought this extender/booster.

  • I think I've figured out the problem, but it doesn't appear to be solvable.

When I am connected to my _ext network, my iPhone shows an IP address in the correct range – I use 10.x.x.x.

However, when I look in the WN1000RP connected devices screen, it shows the iPhone with an IP address in the 192.x.x.x range.

Sadly, there doesn't appear to be a way of forcing the WN1000RP to distribute a range of 10.x.x.x addresses instead of 192.x.x.x addresses.
  • The Extender should be able to use the same IP coming from you main router because the extender does not have its own DHCP server.

If this extender is really connected to you main wireless network but showing a different IP the best thing to do is give the extender a static IP address'

you cann access the UI by goint to mywifiext.net
just go to: Setup > IP address > Use static IP Address

IP Address: 10.x.x.240 (this is for your extender
    IP Subnetmask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway IP Address: 10.x.x.x (Default gateway or ip from your router)
Primary DNS: 10.x.x.x (Default gateway or ip from your router)

this will force your extender to use the same range of IP coming from your main wireless network
  • I'll try that.

The extender isn't getting a 192.x.x.x address however. It gets a 10.x.x.x address correctly. Where it goes awry is when I connect iPhone/iPad. On the iPad or iPhone it shows a 10.x.x.x address. However, when I look on the extender at connected devices, the iPhone/iPad always display a 192.x.x.x address. It's bizarre.
