Just got a new Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 Desktop WiFi Range Extender (EX7000-100NAS), but issues...
Hello.
I just got and set up a new Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 Desktop WiFi Range Extender (EX7000-100NAS) from a local Best Buy for elder couples whose Linksys RE4000W wifi range extenders failed to work anymore. Overall, it seems to work good but there were issues:
1. Its set up wizard pop-up window screen kept going away every few minutes in Mac OS Sierra v10.12.5 in a 13.3" 2012 MacBook Pro. It was annoying to restart way behind. :( I had to hurry to complete. What's up with that? According to its firmware version, it was already the (lat/new)est.
2. Why did its set up wizard require my e-mail address? That's a dumb/stupid requirement. Was there a way to skip it?
3. 5 Ghz (a/n/ac) has a very poor signal (red color) after (boot/power)ing up the extender. The light was green too! I tried putting its at various places, adjusting antenna(s/e), etc. :( 2.4 Ghz (b/g/n) is mostly fine though.
4. Is it me or are the antenna(s/e) not secured enough even after rotating clock wise many times?
The router is a Netgear R6300 v1 with its (lat/new)est stock firmware.
Thank you in advance. :)

Also, is there a way not to use virtual MAC addresses? I want to use the hardware's MAC addresses so I can see them in my router's connection list. I have to look in the extender's MAC address list. :(

Does it have guest network like in many newer routers?

Hello Ant
1.you may want to try a different web browser.
2.No way to skip it. It is there to recover passwords.
3.you may want to adjust the 5ghz wireless channel on your router.
only way to make the guest network work is connect it to the guest network SSID that is coming from the main router.
