Log into AC1200 EX6200 to connect to new Wifi Network

I have a 5-y-o AC1200 Range Extender EX6200 which has worked well. My ISP has bumped my land-line delivered internet from 25Mbps to 250Mbps, with a new Mesh Wifi System (tp-link Deco 5) plus Ethernet switch (tp-link TL-SG105).

I need to hook the EX6200 up with the Deco 5, that is install the network name and PW, so that the EX6200 can do the handshake with the Deco 5. None of the instructions work, and I don’t remember how the initial set-up went 5 years ago.

The connection to the incoming internet connection is a Mac Book Air M1, OS 11.3.1.

1.) From kb.netgear.com/29746/I-can-t-access-www-mywifiext-net-what-do-I-do:
“Your computer must be either physically connected by Ethernet or wirelessly connected to your NETGEAR range extender to access this web address.”

The EX6200 is plugged into either the switch of the Deco M5, with an ethernet cable. When I try {mywifiext} , I get the alert “You are not connected to your extender's WiFi network.”

2.) when I try mywifiext .local, I get the alert “Server not found”.

3.) Just tried resetting: no luck

Any hints will be greatly appreciated,

Merbell

  • netgear doesn't use team viewer. You clicked on something and ended up on a scam site. I'd be disputing that with my credit card company asap

    Start off with a reset.

Push and hold reset for 7-15 seconds while its powered on.

The lights should blink when held long enough. (can sometimes take longer)

Then you should be able to follow the installation assistant.

here's the video of using it:

IF that doesn't work, you can always hardwire a pc/laptop to the extender. (disable the pc/laptops wifi during setup)

I'd actually tried the reset and looked at the NetGear set-up video: no go. But then got sucked into something I don't trust at all.

From Net Gear's "New Extender Set-Up" page, I found a LiveChat window with "Customer Service Exec. Support Agent" who quickly put me in touch with "level-3 tech support". (She asked for a Ph# and he called me.) For there, I DLed "teamviewer" and let him control my laptop, so he could do the "handshake" directly. About 2/3 of the way throug,h I found out that this was not a free service, but the preliminaries of an anti-hacker defense app from Geek Infotech Solution INC. 3-year svce = $499, 7-y =$699, lifetime=999. At that point there was no backing out. Part of the transaction was a "docu-sign" to relinquish my right to a refund. So there I was…… All because I trusted the Net Gear Support Agent.

In the mean time the range extender's performance was only MARGINALLY improved.

Has anyne else heard of this kind of experience?

      TIA
