My universal wifi range extender wn2000rpt v3 falls asleep

Hi, I'm new here, and with very little experience in the subject, so:

I've been using this wifi extender for couple years now in my home office (our Comcast wifi router is in the other end of our condo), and lately it would "fall asleep" almost daily, namely, when I enter my office and switch my iPhone 6 to it, and test the connection by launching the Google app, I get no reception, even though all 3 lights are green. Time and again, the only way to wake it up is to disconnect the extender from power, wait few minutes, reconnect — and then it would work.

Is there a fix? Please 'splain it to me slow... like to a child...

Thanks!

  • First thing's first.

    Check other power outlet.

Check another power adapter with the same voltage specs.

If the same result, the hardware might be starting to degrade.

See if re-flashing the firmware will work.

    Download the firmware here.

Upgrading the firmware can be done by accessing mywifiext.net.

    • Log in to the device using a Web browser. The URL is http://www.mywifiext.net.
    • Click MaintenanceFirmware Upgrade
    • Click Browse and find the file you just downloaded.
    • Click Upload. While the firmware is loading, do not interrupt the upgrade process.

I reset the extender, went thru the installation precedure again, and both my iPhone and iMac recognize the extender (NETGEAR_EXT) but I don't get connection to the internet, so no way to update the firmware that I downloaded....
