N300 connectivity problems

I have a DGN22200v4 router, located upstairs, which runs my WiFi network LAN-1. Downstairs in the lounge is a N300 WiFi Extender which runs LAN-2. There is a laptop in the same room which is configured to connect automatically to LAN-2.

After working without problems for many, many months suddenly over the last day or so the laptop will either (a) not connect to LAN-2 or (b) if connected manually to LAN-2, will display an 'Internet access available' message but not actually download anything from the web, then after about a minute or so it will disconnect from LAN-2 and refuse to connect to it again. If connected to LAN-1 instead then (so far) it runs OK (LAN-1 and LAN-2 are configured with the same security settings).

I am using a desktop PC on a wired connection to the router. From this I can connect to and login into the N300 over LAN-1, so the extender is clearly talking to the router. So why will the laptop no longer do so, yet still talk to the router??? Any possible link with the most recent Windows 10 updates perhaps????

    Hello Nemo-2000

Have you tried to factory reset the modem and setup the network again or even back up your config and then load it after the reset?

Some further investigation suggested a channel conflict.....

My router has always been set to choose a channel automatically and until recently there had never been a problem. Some diagnostics showed that the problem occurred whenever the router chose Channel 1, but not if it chose 6 or 11. My neighbours' (strong signal) WiFi currently is running on 4.

I changed my router to always use Channel 11 (as any other Channel 11 networks in my area are far away with very weak signals) and so far - fingers crossed! - there has been no further problem. I'm just hoping now that my neighbours' router doesn't change to 11 one day :-(  Quite why his router on 4 should interfere so badly with mine on 1, but not when mine was on 6, remains a mystery.......
