N900 - Can't connect using ethernet or wifi

I've recently changed ISP and have decent new router and an old n900 I wanted to use it as an access point to improve the wifi upstairs. I have tried connecting to it via ethernet and wifi using a windows 10 laptop and wifi only via a 2014 macbook air but so far have not been able to see it on the network map. I have tried a factory reset on the n900 and made sure laptop and macbook are both up to date. Anyone had the same issue? Any suggestions welcome

Which router is it? N900 is a speed, not a model.

you can go to netgear.com/support/    type in the model number that you have. Then look for access point mode.

Sorry. Its a WNDR4500v2 but it won't connect via ethernet, doesnt show up as an option when scanning wifi and doesn't respond via browser to either ip (192.168.0.1) or routerlogin.net. I've tried various lan cables including brand new

I'm not sure what to try next. Any help appreciated
