Need help increasing wifi connectivity; have a Netgear R6250 router

I have a R6250 router.  I have upgraded the firmware to V1.0.4.26_10.1.23.

Because of where the cable company ran the line, the router is in the basement.  I have a 2 story home.  My wifi connectivity is TERRIBLE throughout the house, no matter where I am sitting with my computer.  I purchased the 5GEXT extender and put it in the second floor bedroom but it doesn't provide me with any better connectivity even when I'm sitting in that room.  I do not have co-ax run through my home so that is not an option.  Looking for suggestions to extend my range to my first and second floors of the home.

    Hi pms1228,

    Welcome to the community!

    1. Please indicate the exact model number of the extender?

    2. Ideally, the extender should be located in an area where it still gets a good enough signal from the router for it to re-broadcast the signal (halfway point between the router and the dead spot).

    3. Are your devices able to go online when connected to extender's signal?

    Regards,

      Hi pms1228,

      1. Have you already gone through the process of setting up the extender?

      2. If you have, you can use your mobile device to check for the best location of the extender by using a WiFi analyzer app.

      Regards,

        How

I did but have since removed it because it didn't seem to be helping.

how would i use my mobile device to check for the best signal?

  • I have an ex6100 extender. I have placed it in a room on the first floor of the house and it doesn't increase my Wi-Fi signal at all. I don't know where I should be placing it or if there's a better option
