Need to "reactivate" WN2000RPT for use each time

I have a WN2000RPT to connect my son's desktop upstairs to the internet. It works fine IF I connect to it with a device downstairs first. Once he shuts his computer off the next time he tries to connect it shows no internet access until I connect to it again.

I have an AT&T U-verse router, the device I use to "reactivate" the internet access is an android tablet, and my son's computer is Windows 7

Any suggestions before I just take this back to where I got it and get a different type of range extender?

Reset the EXT and then Reconfigure it again
Connect the EXT to the Router Hardwired and then upgrade the Firmware
Reset the EXT and then Configure
Connect the Devices to the EXT

Do you mean you have to run the wizard to connect?

Make sure you are using WPA2 encryption on u-verse.
  • Thank you Stanley I will do those steps this evening and post back the results

JM no I don't have to run the wizard I just have to connect to the extender with a device (pretty much right in front of it, but that's because its sitting by my desk) and bring up a website (any website). Its like I have to wake it up or something

Meaning the desktop (wireless or wired) to the extender.

In order for desktop pc to have internet access , you take tablet and connect uverse device then desktop will start to work? is that correct?
  • I have to connect to the extender and go to a website to get the extender to put a signal upstairs. The desktop shows it is connected to the extender but when the desktop goes to a website it gets the "you're not connected to the internet".... maybe its the connection between the uverse and the extender?? Does the extender have a sleep mode and losing its connection to the uverse (the main wireless router)???

    Desktop is wired or wireless?

When tablet connects to extender able to surf and after that desktop start to work? Then is desktop goes to sleep or hibernation mode?
  • The desktop is wireless, and it takes me to surf the web to get internet access to the desktop. The desktop will stay connected but once it is shut down for the day the internet access is gone the next time the desktop is booted up.

Is it possible the extender has a sleep mode that releases its connection to the main wireless router?
