Netgear Genie not able to talk to extender

I connected the extender to my old WiFi router a long time ago. I have a new router, so I want to connect the extender to it. When I  started the Genie, it was stuck on Review Settings. I tried to use the Refresh function to go back to selecting a network. However, it's now in a loop where it keeps refreshing the screen. I can't seem to stop it.

I'm looking for help on how to get the Genie back to the beginning of the setup process.

Start by power-cycling.  If you still can't connect, then the next step is to do a factory reset on the extender.

BTW, one option is to set up your new router to use the same network name and passphrase as the old one  You'd also need to match the security mode (likely WPA2-PSK).  So you could try that.

  • It's JK50 here. I had to create a new account to login, which is another issue that I'm having.

I've done everything that you suggested. The outcome is that Genie has reset so that it's at the beginning of the setup process. However, it's in a loop and keeps refreshing the screen so that I can't acutally use it.

    Is the Extender faulty?

Possibly.  One option of course is to replace it, perhaps with a higher-performing model.
