Netgear model EX6200 randomly assigns a Class B subnet when DHCP is enabled
Hi,
Am using a Ntegera WiFi extender, EX6200. Extends WiFi from an existing 2.4GHz router, which I call the master.
I have enabled both 5Ghz and 2.4GHz range in the Netgear WiFi extender.
One client device is a Mac Book Pro Retina, Late 213 model, with the latest OS and patches.
I am finding this Mac is on occasions unable to get acces to the internet, even though connected to the WiFi extender, obtaining dynamically an IP address from the WiFi extender. The problem is that the subnet it is latched on is only 255.255.0.0 and not the normal Class C 255.255.255.255
I find this is happening often and it is a nuisance as it causes this Mac to hunt for the WiFi network, then when it latches to one provided by the extender, it has no internet access cause of the subnet mask issue. I suspect that when the WiFi extender needs to renew its lease from the master WiFi device the issue becomes prominent for this Mac.
All my other devices attaching to the WiFi network provided by the extender do not have this issue.
Any suggestions to resolve this.
Oh, the master router and WiFi source is provided by the ISP and is a D Link device. Not my choice. I have no access privileges to this device.

Hi wsch001,
Thanks for writing in.
What connection does your Mac receive when connecting directly to your router?
Please try navigating to the Network Preferences and reset the configurations.
Let us know how it works for you.

When connecting directly to the router it does get a correct Class C subnet mask.
Current settings are 192.168.8.4
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Router 192.168.8.254
When accessing the network with the extender, it gets assigned an IP address but the subnet mask is only 255.255.0.0 and no router address.
Hence no internet access either on the 5GHz and 2.4 GHz band.
Frustarting is that this does not happen all the time, but only randomly.

Can you please try setting a static IP for your Mac?
