Network password

Hi i have set up my Extender and connected to to my Virgin Media network ok. The extender transmitter is in a separate garden room. I am using a Mac book pro, iPhone 6 and iPad Pro. As I move from the main house to the garden room all devices pick up the Virgin Media Network fine with full signal, however they all then ask for the network pass key to connect, this may take 10 - 15 attempts to get on the network. Then on moving back to the main house the network again calls for the network pass key to get back onto the main router wifi signal. In the garden room devices connected via ehernet / wired are working ok. Why is the network pass key being requested, why does it more often  than not accept connect - can  i do anything to remedy this issue ??

MANY thanks in advance !!! Tim

    Hello Timandadam

The extender creates a separate network and does not hand off the devices so if you have the extenders SSID the exact same as the main network it could be causing the issue.

      Hi Darren

thank you so much for replying / helping me on this ! I get your point on this. However I'm not at all technical.  I followed to instructions to set up the netgear extender connecting it to my Virgin Media WIFI

So the extender automatically sends out the same Network ID as the main router. So when you enter the garden room with a new device and search for WIFI you see the Same Virgin Media network from the extender and then you get the prompt asking for the password.

Does the fgarden room need the netgear settings changing to create a new network I'd and password ? If so Howe do i do this. SO far i have followed the instructions and not been asked to creat a new password or net work name ?

      Thanks again for any help

Yes for the best results you would need a new name and password. While connected to the extender you will want to visit www.mywifiext.net and log into the unit with admin/password. then you can change the name and the password in the wireless settings.
