or does the extender take over this job and I have to put them all in again.

*) Also can I leave the router Guest network wi-fi on and it be "ignored" by the extender (It has a different SSID)

Yes, although you should set up the extender to use a different, non-overlapping Wi-Fi channel.  Also, make sure to enable the setting in the extender to operate as an Access Point.
