Nighthawk EX7700 not connecting
Hi
I have a Nighthawk X6 AC2200 wifi extender - Model EX7700.
It used to work in the past. We had it positioned one floor above the router, and it successfully extended the signal to the top floor.
However, a while back we changed to a PlusNet router. I think I managed to connect them successfully -- using the web browser method. And I opted for One Network, which I now regret.
When I use the extender now, the wifi connection just keeps dropping. It's way worse than without it.
I'd like to go back to having a separate network name so I can test the extender separately but I can't make it happen.
For example: mywifext.com works but then it tells me to connect to mywifiext.local if I'm using One Network. This doesn't work - comes up as "This site can't be reached."
I have tried the Nighthawk app but it says it has "Issues connecting with" my wifi name.
I tried to connect with "Anywhere Access" but it said there were no devices with anywhere access enabled.
I tried the Reset button on the back of the router but didn't change anything.
So I am completely lost.
Anyone have any advice before I chuck the router in the bin and buy a new one?!
Thanks in advance,
Simon
Your extender has successfully connected to your existing WiFi network.
Connect any WiFi enabled device like you would connect them to your main network, using the credentials below.

It helps if the description is consistent in terminology. (i.e. "extender" vs. "router")
Page 10 of the EX7700 extender User Manual says
Once the EX7700 has been reset, it can be configured using the web assistant method shown on page 14.

Apologies for the mistake. I did reset the extender but unfortunately this does not change the fact that it no longer has a NETGEAR_EXT network. It is still stuck on the One Network option.
See pages 41-42
To log in to the extender and reset the extender’s factory settings: 1. Launch a web browser from a computer or mobile device that is connected to your extender network. 2. Log in to your extender:
• If you did not enable the One WiFi Name feature, enter xxx in the address field of the browser.
• If you enabled the One WiFi Name feature, enter one of the following URLs:
Windows-based computers. http://mywifiext or http://mywifiext.local -
Mac computers, iOS devices, and Linux devices. http://mywifiext. local -
So I am still stuck trying and failing to access http://mywifiext.local

After doing the factory reset (and the Power LED blinked amber), there is no WiFi network with the name (SSID) NEGEAR_EXT?
Page 50 of the user manual says to connect to mywifiext.net, not mywifiext.local

Thanks.
I can confirm that after the factory reset, and the Power LED blinked amber, there is no WiFi network with the name (SSID) NEGEAR_EXT.
I can connect to the URL you mentioned ending in .net but that page just shows the following instructions.
To log in to your extender, enter one of the following URLs in your web browser depending on your device:
- ▪Windows: http://mywifiext
- ▪Mac OS X or iOS:http://mywifiext.local
- ▪Android: http://<extender's IP address>
- For more information, visit https://kb.netgear.com/000044735.
And since I am on a Mac, I am asked to visit mywifiext.local. Which as I say does not work.

Is that the address you are seeing for the extender in the plusnet connected devices list?

Log into the Plusnet router and navigate to its attached devices page (or its equivalent). It'll have one. Look for the EX7700 and its ip address. Try using that to access it.
Also, I know you tried resetting but I've seen a few times it not work. Try holding reset for up to 30 seconds while powered on.
Try those 2 things. DON'T hit wps after the reset.

Many thanks.
I have found EX7700 on attached devices. It is showing zero MB uploaded or downloaded. And when I type its IP address into my browser, it again says ":Site can't be reached".

Ah on attached devices the EXT7700 shows NOT CONNECTED.

try the reset again option.
If that doesn't work, then set it up with the WPS method and go through the connected devices page again and try its ip address.

And now there are no lights illuminated on the front of the Extender.
The green light is still ON at the back
