Nighthawk Model D7800 AND mesh extender

I have a Nighthawk model D7800 AC2600 and find that the wifi signal is poor in some home areas. Using the Netgear WiFi Analytics I get the following results:

At the router itself - 70%

At the TV room - 30%

Streaming, for example, a football game results in a poor picture, sometimes fuzzy.

So I bought and connected a Netgear WiFi Mesh Extender Model EX6250 AC1750. Result, basically no change. I am considering taking it back for a refund, or exchanging it for a Model 7500 AC2200

Any helpful suggestions to improve the WiFi signal strength?

How much area are you trying to cover? (square footage)

What is your housing materials? Certain materials are going to block wifi signals. These include brick, concrete, foil lined insulation, adobe, plaster lathe, and hvac. All these are going to create issues for wifi so what your house is made of matters a lot.

With extenders, there's a lot of playing around to optimize placement and wifi signals. I can go over these or link you to an article that goes over it all. I'll do that to save me typing time.

many things can influence how an extender performs. The EX6250 is a faily solid extender (I used one for a while) so I'd work optimizing it first (provided it can be depending on your house materials).

  • Hi plemans, many thanks for your message (I am unsure if this is the corect method of replying). I am trying to cover a distance about 25 metres, reasonably direct from my home office, glass sliding door to a balcony, reverse back into living area, dining area, then to TV room. I read the Toms guide, then logged into the EX6250 Extender, updated firmware. Read through the manual, adjusted a few setting, but cannot specify exactly. The end result, using the Netgear Home Testing app for androids I now get the following signal readings (which I believe ought to be ok - Home office = 100% Balcony & Living & Dining Room = 70% - 100% & TV Room (where the extender is = 100%. Certainly better signal strength than earlier. Thanks again.

The test will come in the morning when I cast some English football.
