NOOK Tablet MAC Filtering Problem

When I first purchased my NOOK Tablet, I linked to the internet and the NOOK bookstore and purchased a book. That was about 2 or 3 weeks ago. It worked fine. This is at my home address and I have the NETGEAR WPN824 v2 wireless router.

Yesterday, I tried to go online to the NOOK bookstore, and received an error message WiFi Error 101 that said I cannot connect to the access point because of a MAC Filtering issue with my WiFi connection. The Nook Tablet suggested I turn off MAC filtering or add my NOOK's MAC address (which I did find).

I do not know how to access my router so I can try both of these suggestions. Someone else hooked up my wireless access and we no longer have the Netgear installation disc.

Is my Netgear IP address the one found on the bottom of the Netgear box that says default access and then gives an http number? I tried to put that http number in IE to bring up the Netgear router but that didn't seem to work. How do I get the IP address of my Neatgear product so I can try the MAC Filtering options.

I'm not very computer/internet savvy.

  • First - if you are using MAC filtering you would know, because you would have to enter the MAC address of every device that uses your wireless before it will connect, so, since you got the Nook to connect without doing that, MAC filtering is not the cause of your problem.

    Call Barnes & Noble support.
  • I would say you need to change wireless mode from "auto 108Mbps" to B &G mode or G only under wireless settings

yes, bottom of the router's IP should give you a prompt with at user/pass

    user admin
pass password ( if you have not changed in the past)

You should access the route with computer using ethernet cable . Also wireless encryption type can cause issues you need to play with it.
  • I have tried typing 192.168.1.1 and http://192.168.1.1 into the IE browser but I don't get anything that asks for a username or password. I just keep getting links to information about that IP. I tried typing in ipconfig as well and I have no idea how to get into the router to change MAC filtering.

I have never had to do anything with MAC filtering before. The Nook is my only device that is giving me problems with connecting to the internet.
  • That link doesn't work. I get this message:
Failure To Connect To Web Server
Failure To Connect To Web Server
  • I typed in ipconfig gateway into the Google search bar and this came up. What is DHCP? My laptop connects to the internet but my NOOK doesn't connect to the internet. Should I try this? I have satelite.

How To reset your computer's IP address and Gateway when using DHCP

When your computer will not connect to the Internet on a high speed connection (Cable, ADSL, Satelitte) sometimes it needs to aquire a new IP address or Gateway. This is common when the power goes out or you move the computer from one LAN to another. This Guide will instruct you on how to obtain a new IP address or Gateway. for your computer.

Note: This guide will only work for those people who are using DHCP to get their IP address and Gateway from their Internet Provider.

    Instructions
    1. First click on Start then Run and type command in the Open: field and press the OK button.

    2. To determine what your IP address and default gateware are we need to run ipconfig.exe. Type ipconfig.exe and press enter. The Default Gateway address and the IP Address will be displayed. Regardless of whether there are addresses listed here, continue with the next two steps.

    3. You will need to release your current IP address and gateway in order to get a new one. If this turns out not to be the problem with your computer, this proceedure will not hurt anything by attempting it. Release your current IP by typing the following ipconfig /release and then press enter. This will release any assigned IP addresses and gateways from your computer.

    4. Next you need to type in ipconfig /renew to get a new IP address or default gateway. On the screen your should see your new Default Gateway and IP Address. If you are using a router or your IP has not changed on your modem then the addresses may not have changed.

    5. Type exit to leave the command prompt and get to Windows.
These changes should take effect immediately.
